Recreational Scuba Diving
There are many activities you can engage in while scuba diving for recreation. Many people not experienced in this sport think that diving in this manner is strictly for looking at fish and other wildlife. Yet, nothing is further than the truth. While scuba diving, you can find plenty of things to look at, admire and explore. In fact, many scuba divers are not there for the wildlife that can be found, they are there to engage in one of these other activities and scuba diving is just a means to an end.
Underwater photography requires that one be involved in scuba diving. This is one of the most popular diving specialties as well as one of the most challenging areas of photography. Special equipment is needed if you wish to shoot photos underwater and this can be very expensive. Yet, the rewards are immeasurable. Shipwrecks, caves and underwater landscapes are just waiting to be captured in a picture and can be admired by all, even those who do not engage in either the sport or the hobby.
Another popular activity when scuba diving is shipwreck exploring and, as with photography, there is so much out there to be explored that you can never get bored. Thousands and thousands of shipwrecks are still lying on the floors of oceans, lakes and other bodies of water and many have yet to be discovered. Not only is this a fun and exciting pastime, you can also learn a great deal about history as some wrecks date back hundreds of years. You can become so engrossed in this exploration that you won’t come up until your tank runs low.
If you have been scuba diving for years and are looking for a new challenge, consider cave diving. This is a form of technical diving and does carry a high potential risk. Even with this danger an inherent part of cave diving, many find it is well worth it. The caves may be partially or completely filled with water and you have to be aware of your surrounding at all times. Yet, unique features such as stalactites and stalagmites should not be missed. If you feel you are ready for cave diving, then take the chance. It’s an experience you will often want to repeat.
